Hire car driver, Chaatram Sukhu, 55, of West Canefield, East Canje Berbice is now a patient of the New Amsterdam Public Hospital after he was involved in a vehicular accident at Rose Hall yesterday afternoon.

Two passengers, who were also in motorcar, HB 6439, were also injured. They have been identified as Angela Fraser, 34, of Speculations Village, and 49-year-old Drupwattie Samaroo of Adelphi Village, Canje Berbice.

Enquiries disclosed that hire car HB 6439 was proceeding north along the western side of the road when motorcar PZZ 1423, owned and driven by Chetram Karan, 32, of Reliance Settlement East Canje, swerved west into the path of the hire car and collided head-on.

As a result of the collision, the driver and the passengers of the hire car received injuries to their bodies.

They were taken out of the vehicle by public-spirited citizens in a conscious condition and taken to New Amsterdam Public Hospital, where they were seen and examined by a doctor on duty. The passengers were treated and sent away, and the driver of the hire car was admitted a patient for observation suffering from pains about the chest. His condition is regarded as stable.

The driver of motorcar PZZ 1423 was arrested and taken to Central Police Station where a breathalyzer test was conducted on him and same read .138 and .162 micrograms respectively.
