A Guyhoc Squatting Area, youth who claims police beat him up, was slapped with two armed robbery charges and released on $300,000 total bail.

Twenty-one-year-old Shamar Davis, of Guyhoc Squatting Area, appeared before Magistrate Dylon Bess today at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts where the charges were read to him.

The first charge alleges that on May 10, at Croal Street, Georgetown, while being armed with a knife, he robbed Stefan Muniram of a cellphone valued at $125,000. Additionally, it is alleged that on September 24, at Water Street, Georgetown, while in the company of others and being armed with a knife, he robbed Rohan Persaud of a cellphone valued at $50, 000 and another cellphone valued at $12,000.

After denying both charges, Davis told the court that he was beaten by a police officer. He explained that he was told to go to the Police Station and while on his way, another police officer approached and assaulted him.

He said that the officer also told him about another allegation.

The youth who said he is a drink vendor at the Sophia Bus Park was released on $150,000 bail for each of the charges. He was advised to return to court on October 4.
