Two men are nursing serious injuries after they were involved in a multi-vehicle smashup at Profit, West Coast Berbice (WCB).

According to police, the accident involved motor lorry, GZZ 7651, driven by 55-year-old Noel Hubert Jagan of Mahaica, East Coast Demerara (ECD); motorcar, PWW 5227, driven by Jaichand Jaikaran of Success E.CD; motorcar, PSS 1667, driven by 38-year-old Delon McPherson of Kingelly Village (WCB); motorcar, PPP 4157, driven by 43-year-old Rawl Bacchus of Cathrine Mahaicony; and motorcar, PAB1558, driven by 36-year-old Abocy Lynch of Bel-Air W.C.B with 23-year-old Akeem Daniels of No. 28 Village W.CB.

Facts Enquires disclosed that the motor lorry and motorcar PAB1558 were proceeding west along the southern side of the public road, while motorcars PPP4157, PSS1267, and PWW5621 were proceeding in the opposite direction behind each other.

According to the driver of the lorry, he observed smoke across the roadway causing him to reduce his speed. The driver further stated that he saw motorcar PYY7837, which was proceeding in the opposite direction at a fast rate of speed, collide with PPP4157, PSS1267, and PWW5621 before hitting his lorry and motorcar PSS1267 and finally coming to a halt.

The driver of motorcar #PPP4157 was picked up in a conscious state and taken to the Mahaicony Public Hospital and later transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital while the driver of motorcar PYY7837, also in a conscious state, was taken to the Fort Wellington Public Hospital where he remains under observation.

All parties have been tested and found to be below the legal limit of alcohol consumption.

The vehicles have been examined as the investigations continue.
