–they will be haunted by election rigging scandal until it is addressed -Dominic Gaskin
On the elections campaign trail, political parties use varying tools to attract voters, one such being the strength of their policy positions. Their promises for a better standard of living are critical too. But even if the A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) has all of this in play, it will still be haunted by the election rigging scandal it failed to address for five years. This viewpoint was shared by former AFC Minister, Dominic Gaskin.
During an exclusive interview with Guyana Standard, Gaskin said he believes the coalition has already lost the 2025 elections.
“I had said back in 2020 that the coalition lost the 2025 election in advance because of their support for the attempted rigging. My position hasn’t changed and it’s not because I’m sticking with a stated position but because the opposition hasn’t done anything to address the issue during the past five years,” said Gaskin.
He added that the APNU has also failed to present itself as a viable alternative, ready to govern this country.
Gaskin said, “It took the PNC two decades and a name change to overcome its history of rigged elections. They seem not to have learnt anything from the past.”
He added, “It will haunt them until they address it.”
During a recent podcast interview, former PNCR Member and Region 4 Vice Chairman, Samuel Sandy confessed that he was in possession of evidence proving the APNU+AFC lost the elections but he was fearful to speak out.
Sandy said he begged the opposition to come clean on the matter but he was ignored. For these and other reasons, Sandy said he had to take his exit from the party.
