The People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) has promised to ramp up the production of honey and local fruit juices for export as part of its five-year plan to ensure Guyana is recognized as a regional powerhouse in agro-processing.
According to the party’s 2025 manifesto, new fruit pulp hubs for mango, pineapple, cherry, and other produce will be developed to support expanded domestic juice production and entry into international markets. The honey industry will also be aggressively promoted, with increased investment aimed at making it a recognised export product.
The PPP/C also committed to achieving and maintaining self-sufficiency in corn and soya production, with the added goal of supplying the wider CARICOM market. The party said this would reduce import dependence and position Guyana as a reliable source of key feed and food supplies within the region.
The manifesto outlines plans to promote the development of a plant-based dairy alternatives industry, with products such as coconut and nut-based milk which is gaining traction in global health-conscious markets. Complementing this will be the continued expansion of the coconut industry, supported by the distribution of more than one million high-yielding seedlings and greater diversification into products such as coconut water, oil, milk, cream, and copra-based items.
To improve logistics and access to markets, the PPP/C said it will establish state-of-the-art port facilities at Charity, Parika, and Port Kaituma. These will feature modern cold storage, packaging, and agro-processing facilities to extend the shelf life of produce and ensure farmers can better reach export destinations.
Other commitments include reviving cocoa and coffee cultivation, particularly in Region One, and promoting climate-smart farming practices such as water-efficient irrigation, soil conservation and greenhouse systems.
