Police are investigating a fatal accident that occurred at about 00:20 hours today on the Mon Repos Public Road, East Coast Demerara.
The accident involved a white motor car PAC 9262, owned and driven by a 26-year-old Police Lance Corporal stationed at Ogle Police Outpost, and a male pedestrian called ‘Soath’ (full name, age, and address unknown at this time).
Enquiries disclosed that the car was proceeding West along the northern drive lane of the southern carriageway of Mon Repos public road when the pedestrian ran from south to north into the path of the car.
As a result, the left front of the vehicle collided with the pedestrian, who fell on the road’s surface and received injuries to his body.
He was picked up in an unconscious condition, placed in an ambulance, and conveyed to Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, where he succumbed to his injuries. The body is at the Georgetown Public Hospital’s mortuary, awaiting identification and a post-mortem examination.
A breathalyser test was conducted on the driver, and there was no trace of alcohol on his breath. The driver is presently under close arrest.
