Minister of Home Affairs, Oneidge Walrond, has issued a tough charge to the leadership of the Guyana Police Force, calling for stronger discipline, integrity, and accountability.
Addressing the Force’s Executive Leadership Team and Commanders earlier today (October 1, 2025), Minister Walrond reminded them that while Government has delivered record investment in infrastructure, mobility, technology, and training since 2020, “resources alone cannot protect the reputation of this institution; only integrity, discipline, and leadership can.”
She warned against tolerance of misconduct, “Corruption must be dealt with firmly. Show zero tolerance. Do not look the other way. Be fearless in confronting it.”
On discipline, the Minister was clear: “Leadership must be by example. If discipline is weak at the top, it will collapse below. Tighten discipline, strengthen performance, and rebuild trust.”
Pointing to new and emerging challenges, including border security, increased connectivity, and the demands of a rapidly growing economy, Minister Walrond urged commanders to ensure that resources translate into outcomes where communities feel secure, criminals face the full weight of the law, and the uniform once again commands pride and respect.
Affirming that public safety and trust depend on effective leadership, Minister Walrond declared, “This is the moment for decisive leadership. The people will not wait, and neither will I.”
Minister Walrond pledged her unwavering support as the Force works to build a professional, respected, and trusted service rooted in integrity, discipline, and accountability.
