Guyana’s Attorney General and Legal Affairs Minister, Anil Nandlall says that the government is willing to fulfil its legal mandate to assist in the extradition of Azruddin Mohamed and Nazar Mohamed to the Unites States of America to answer charges of gold smuggling and wire fraud.
The father-son duo is the subject of an indictment laid in a Florida Court recently over allegations that the men conspired with government officials to commit these alleged crimes. They are facing more than 10 charges.
Nandlall, during his recent “Issues in the News” programme, said that Guyana is ready to comply with any request made by the US Government to extradite the two businessmen.
Azruddin is currently the Leader of the We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) Party and the presumptive Opposition Leader. He is yet to take the oath of office.
“Guyana has made it very clear that it is ready, willing and most able to diligently discharge its legal duties and obligations on the current extradition framework that exist with the United States of America in relation to this matter,” Nandlall said.
Nandlall emphasized that this extradition process is not a new one, noting that Guyana has worked along with the United States and other countries many times in the past.
He cited specific examples in 2025 including one extradition to the U.S., dozens to other countries, and one to Canada as a result of requests from both the U.S. and Canadian governments.
