Balram Bessessar, also known as “Navin”, a 49-year-old Labourer of Stewartville, West Coast Demerara, was charged today with the murder of his stepson, Sudesh Singh, called “Joel,” 15.
The accused appeared at the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrate Court before His Worship Magistrate Singh, where the charge was read to him. He was not required to plead and was remanded to prison.
According to a police report, Singh was killed on Friday, October 3, 2025, by Bessessar during a row over a bicycle malfunction.
Singh was brutally chopped about his upper body.
The suspect reportedly turned himself in at the Leonora Police Station.
When police arrived at the scene, they found Singh lying motionless under the house, face up and bleeding from the neck.
The 15-year-old lived with his 35-year-old unemployed mother, Roshanini Surujballi and the suspect.
