Police in Regional Division 4 ‘A’ are investigating a fatal accident which occurred on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at about 13:15hrs at the intersection of Lamaha Street and Vlissengen Road, Georgetown.
The accident involved a motor lorry, GAH 5884, driven by a 33-year-old man of Long Creek, Soesdyke-Linden Highway, and a pedal cyclist, Lennox George Benjamin, a 69-year-old male of Prashad Nagar, Georgetown (now deceased).
Preliminary inquiries revealed that the motor lorry was stationary on the southern driving lane of Lamaha Street facing west due to a red traffic signal, while the pedal cyclist was proceeding west along the southern side of Lamaha Street on the left side of the lorry. The traffic signal changed to green, and the lorry moved off and continued west into the intersection before making a turn south onto Vlissengen Road, during which a collision occurred.
Guyana Standard understands that the left rear portion of the lorry came into contact with the cyclist, who subsequently fell onto the road’s surface, sustaining injuries to his body.
Emergency medical personnel responded, and Benjamin was examined and pronounced dead. The body was then taken to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
The driver of the lorry is in custody.
