While the House Speaker, Manzoor Nadir previously stated that Government-run Department of Public Information (DPI) had been contracted to provide livestream services for budget 2026 business, the entity is actually providing the service free of charge.
The Speaker, himself, confirmed this moments ago as the consideration of the Budget Estimates continues at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre, Liliendaal, East Coast Demerara.
The Speaker’s comment was in response to a question posed by Opposition Member of Parliament (MP) Ganesh Mahipaul.
Nadir, however, clarified that for special sittings or additional livestreaming needs, Parliament may have to resort to an external service provider.
Earlier this month, the Speaker faced criticism from the Guyana Press Association (GPA) and several journalists as well as political parties for restricting media access to the House, stating that the “contracted” DPI would provide coverage and disseminate same to the media fraternity.
