One of the men charged in connection with the July 13, 2025, rape incident at Raghoo’s Sports Bar, Soesdyke, has been freed after a magistrate upheld a no-case submission.
Ryan Rajnarine, a 30-year-old office assistant and music selector of Soesdyke (Back Road), East Bank Demerara, was discharged today at the Friendship Magistrate’s Court by Her Worship Tameika Clarke. His attorney, Bernard DaSilva, confirmed that the court upheld his no-case submission.
However, the second accused, Leon De Freitas, a 36-year-old DJ of Kuru Kururu, Soesdyke-Linden Highway, was committed to stand trial at the next practicable sitting of the Demerara Assizes.
The matter stems from a July 13 incident at Raghoo’s Sports Bar, during which a woman reported to police that she had been drugged and raped by three men.
Following investigations, police had issued a wanted bulletin for Barry Sullivan, 28, in relation to the alleged rape. Sullivan was subsequently captured in Lethem.
Rajnarine and De Freitas were charged after the Police Legal Advisor recommended that they be prosecuted for inciting Sullivan to engage in sexual penetration of a female without her consent on the said date at Raghoo’s Bar, Soesdyke Public Road.
The case was heard today when the matter was called at the Friendship Magistrate’s Court, East Bank Demerara, resulting in Rajnarine’s discharge and De Freitas being sent to stand trial.
