Regional Commander Mohamed Ally of Region Nine has confirmed that an investigation is underway into the rape and resulting pregnancy of a 14-year-old in that region.
The incident was reported in February 2026. Speaking with The Guyana Standard, Ally confirmed that the case file was dispatched to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) on March 11 for further legal advice. Police continue to monitor the situation as they await instructions on how to proceed with charges.
Guyana Standard understands that the allegation of rape was levelled against a well known individual who dwells in the area where the incident occurred. Sources says the suspect is a repeat offender who has access many young girls as a result of his job as a taxi driver.
