Minister of Agriculture, Zulfikar Mustapha is currently in the Dominican Republic where he has been engaging key stakeholders in the agriculture sector as part of efforts to strengthen bilateral cooperation and advance agricultural development in Guyana.
During his visit, Minister Mustapha met with the Dominican Republic’s Minister of Agriculture, Francisco Oliverio Espaillat Bencosme, where discussions centered on areas of mutual interest and opportunities for collaboration to boost the production of a number of crops in Guyana. The two ministers examined avenues for technical cooperation, the sharing of expertise and technologies, and strategies to further enhance agricultural productivity and value-added production in both countries.
Minister Mustapha also held discussions with former President of the Dominican Republic, H.E. Hipólito Mejía. Their engagement focused on the future development of agriculture in Guyana, opportunities for knowledge transfer, and the implementation of initiatives that can support increased production and diversification within the sector.
The discussions build on earlier engagements held in Guyana when a delegation from the Dominican Republic met with President Dr. Irfaan Ali and Minister Mustapha to explore areas of cooperation in agriculture, including crop production, agro-processing, technology transfer, and capacity building.
