The Guyana Police Force has confirmed that a photocopy of a firearm licence issued in the name of Member of Parliament Dawn Hastings-Williams was found in the same bag as a pistol and ammunition discovered in a vehicle in which Member of Parliament Natasha Singh-Lewis was travelling.
The force made the confirmation in a press statement detailing the circumstances surrounding the discovery of the gun and ammo at Friendship, East Bank Demerara, in the early hours of Wednesday, August 26, 2026.
That night, the two We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) members, along with the Opposition Leader, Azruddin Mohamed, were searched by authorities after disembarking a vessel.
Singh-Lewis and Mohamed were subsequently arrested.
According to police, ranks from Regional Division 4’B’ Headquarters, acting on information received, intercepted motor car PAH 4034, a black Toyota Allion, at about 00:15hrs.
The vehicle was occupied by Singh and her husband, a 35-year-old businessman of Campbellville, Georgetown.
Police said a search of the vehicle, conducted in the presence of both occupants, uncovered a bag in the trunk containing the Glock 19 9mm pistol and a magazine containing twelve live rounds of ammunition.
WIN, in a Facebook post, had previously stated that the firearm belonged to Hastings-Williams and had been placed among her personal belongings in Singh-Lewis’ vehicle before Hastings-Williams boarded the vessel at Friendship.
The party said that while Hastings-Williams was aboard the vessel, the Coast Guard cut the rope securing it to the dock, preventing her from returning to the vehicle.
Singh subsequently left the compound in her vehicle to meet her colleagues at another location, but was stopped by police near the gate of Opposition Leader, Azruddin Mohamed’s residence, where the vehicle was searched and the firearm was found.
Singh was released on $200,000 station bail.
Investigations are continuing.
