The Guyana Police Force is preparing a case file to be sent for legal advice as investigations continue into the alleged possession of a firearm and ammunition without a licence involving Member of Parliament Natasha Singh-Lewis and her husband, Shane Fordyce.
According to the latest police update, investigators at about 09:00 hrs on Wednesday, August 26, contacted Singh-Lewis and informed her of the alleged offence. She was cautioned and, acting on the advice of her attorney, provided a written statement.
At about 10:58 hrs that morning, investigators contacted Fordyce and informed him of the same alleged offence. He was cautioned and, after consulting with his attorney, also provided a written statement.
As part of the investigation, Member of Parliament Dawn Hastings-Williams was interviewed at Regional Police Division 4 ‘B’ Headquarters. She provided a statement and handed over a copy of Firearm Licence No. 191501, dated February 16, 2026, for a Glock 19 9mm pistol bearing serial number BBVD168.
The firearm, magazine and ammunition were subsequently taken to the Ballistics Section at Eve Leary, where they were lodged for safekeeping.
Singh-Lewis was released on $200,000 cash bail, while Fordyce remains in police custody. The motor car involved in the investigation also remains lodged.
Police said a case file is being prepared for legal advice.
The investigation stems from the discovery of the firearm and ammunition in the early hours of Wednesday, August 26, after police intercepted motor car PAH 4034, a black Toyota Allion, at about 00:15 hrs at Friendship, East Bank Demerara.
Police said the vehicle was occupied by Singh-Lewis and Fordyce, a 35-year-old businessman of Campbellville, Georgetown.
A search of the vehicle, conducted in the presence of both occupants, uncovered a bag in the trunk containing a Glock 19 9mm pistol and a magazine containing 12 live rounds of ammunition.
The discovery followed a wider operation at Friendship involving Singh-Lewis, Hastings-Williams and Opposition Leader Azruddin Mohamed after they disembarked a vessel.
Singh-Lewis and Mohamed were subsequently arrested.
WIN had previously stated that the firearm belonged to Hastings-Williams and had been placed among her personal belongings in Singh-Lewis’ vehicle before Hastings-Williams boarded the vessel at Friendship.
The party said that while Hastings-Williams was aboard the vessel, Coast Guard personnel cut the rope securing it to the dock, preventing her from returning to the vehicle.
According to WIN, Singh-Lewis subsequently left the compound in her vehicle to meet her colleagues at another location but was stopped near the gate of Mohamed’s residence, where the vehicle was searched and the firearm was found.
The police investigation has now established that the Glock 19 9mm pistol discovered in the vehicle is covered by Firearm Licence No. 191501 issued in Hastings-Williams’ name.
The firearm, magazine and ammunition remain in police custody as investigators prepare the case file for legal advice.
