Police are investigating a fatal accident that occurred today, Friday, August 28, 2026, at about 03:51 hrs on the Timehri Public Road, East Bank Demerara, involving motor lorry GAJ 3074, minibus BAH 6588 and minibus BAF 1135.
Motor lorry GAJ 3074 was driven by a 36-year-old resident of Land of Canaan, while minibus BAH 6588 was driven by a 48-year-old resident of Lusignan and minibus BAF 1135 by a 55-year-old resident of Crane Housing Scheme.
Minibus BAF 1135 had several occupants, including Indonesian nationals Edy Ansyori Sukri and Ikomang Tedy Arsa Bantara Putra, both of whom died at the scene. Four other foreign nationals sustained injuries.
Enquiries disclosed that motor lorry GAJ 3074 was proceeding south along the eastern driving lane of the said road, reportedly at a fast rate of speed, when the driver allegedly swerved southwest and collided with minibus BAH 6588, which was proceeding north along the western driving lane.
The lorry subsequently collided with minibus BAF 1135, which was travelling behind minibus BAH 6588.
As a result of the collisions, all three vehicles were extensively damaged, and the occupants of minibus BAF 1135 sustained injuries about their bodies.
A Guyana Defence Force ambulance, accompanied by Emergency Medical Technicians, responded to the scene. The two Indonesian nationals were pronounced dead at the scene, while the four injured passengers were transported to the Diamond Regional Hospital, where they are receiving medical treatment.
Checks were made for eyewitnesses and CCTV footage; however, none was found.
The scene and vehicles were photographed by a Crime Scene rank, while the vehicles were examined by a Licensing and Certifying Officer.
The bodies of the deceased were taken to Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where they are awaiting post-mortem examinations.
Breathalyzer tests conducted on all three drivers showed no trace of alcohol in their systems.
The drivers remain in custody, assisting with the investigation.
