Previously, Seepersaud paid $14,000 per dialysis session at Doobay Medical Centre, a fee that later increased to $16,000.
With treatment required twice weekly, the expense placed considerable pressure on her finances, making it harder to balance her medical needs with the daily responsibilities of caring for her family.

Access to free dialysis through the government’s public healthcare services is now helping to ease that burden.
Speaking with the Department of Public Information (DPI) on Thursday, Seepersaud expressed appreciation for the initiative, describing the relief it has brought to her circumstances.
“It has eased a lot,” she said, explaining that not having to pay for dialysis means she can better manage other expenses, including medication.
Public dialysis services are now available at six hospitals across Guyana, including Diamond Regional Hospital, Lima Regional Hospital, Bath Regional Hospital, Number 75 Regional Hospital and De Kinderen Regional Hospital.
The expansion builds on earlier investments in dialysis services, including the commissioning of a dialysis centre in Essequibo in 2022 by Minister of Health Dr Frank Anthony. (Department of Public Information)
