A teenage footballer was gunned down around 6:45 hrs this morning in Albouys Street, Albouystown, Georgetown.

The deceased has been identified as 18-year-old Christopher Mansfield called “Gully Bop” of Bar Street, Albouystown. He was shot at least three times about the body and died at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).

Moments ago, Guyana Standard was told that police ranks were patrolling the area, looking for the suspected shooters.

It is believed that the shooting is gang related. 

Reports are that early this morning, the deceased and a relative were involved in a shooting incident in the community. It is unclear if the duo opened fire on someone or a house. However, no one was injured.

The Guyana Standard was informed that the teen’s death was a retaliation to the shooting this morning. According to information received, Mansfield was playing football at an empty lot in Albouys Street with some other persons when he was gunned down.

He was picked up and rushed to the hospital by other players. The suspect fled in a car.

Investigation is ongoing.
