A woman, who only turned 100 years three months ago, died in a fire at Bartica last night.

The deceased has been identified as Ethal Lucille Moseley called ‘Aunty Lu’ of First Avenue, Bartica.

According to information received, neighbours called the fire tender after noticing the old wooden structure where the woman lived was on fire. By the time the firefighters arrived at the scene, it was already too late to save the woman.

The Guyana Standard has been informed that no one heard the elderly woman screaming. Neighbours attempted to break her door, but by the time they succeeded in doing so, the fire had already spread throughout the home. It is suspected that the woman might have gone to bed, leaving a candle lighting.

The 100-year-old woman was said to have lived alone and was being assisted by neighbours.
