The Guyana Police Force (GPF) has transferred six of its ranks who were stationed at the Madewini Police Outpost located on the Linden/Soesdyke Highway after a prisoner escaped from police custody yesterday.
The outpost now has six new policemen who were taken mainly from the East La Penitence and Brickdam Police Stations. The transferred ranks are all under investigation. It is unclear which station they were sent to work.
The name of the escapee has not been released as yet.
The escapee and another bus driver were arrested on Sunday night after a three-vehicle collision claimed the life of 22-year-old Collin Bourne, an employee at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) and a resident of Timehri.
According to information received, minibus PHH 3467 was proceeding south along the eastern carriageway of the public road whilst minibus BVV 5802 and Bourne (on a motorcycle) were proceeding in the opposite direction with the cycle in the rear.
The Guyana Standard has been informed that Bourne overtook minibus, BVV 5802, and eventually collided with minibus PHH 3467.
A traffic policeman said the 22-year-old subsequently fell onto the roadway and mini bus, BVV 5802, ran over his body. He was rushed to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre where he died.
Both drivers were breathalysed and the driver of PHH 3467 was found above the legal limit.
