A mechanic who allegedly raped a teenager after she invited him to spend time with her in her hotel room was this afternoon charged for the offense.

Twenty-three-year-old Lancelot Junior of Berbice is accused of raping a 15-year-old girl last year after a football match in Lethem.

Junior was not allowed to plead to the indictable charge which stated that, between September 1, 2018 and October 14, 2018 at the Takatu Hotel, Lethem, he engaged in sexual penetration with a child under the age of 16.

The matter was heard in-camera and members of the public and the media were asked to exit the courtroom.

According to information, Junior was in Lethem playing football and, after the match, the teen invited him to the Takatu Hotel.

While at the hotel, the two had sexual intercourse. However, the teen later told her parents what had transpired between herself and Junior.

The matter was then reported, an investigation was carried out, and Junior was arrested for the offense.

With no objections raised by the prosecutor, the Magistrate released Junior on $100,000 bail.

He was instructed to make his next court appearance on April 15, 2019, when he is expected to appear in the Lethem Magistrates’ Courts.
