More than a decade after she was violated by a man who could have been her father, a now nineteen-year-old rape survivor received justice after a jury found the perpetrator guilty of the crimes.

This afternoon at the High Court in Georgetown, a 51-year-old man was convicted of having carnal knowledge with, and indecently assaulting a nine-year-old girl.

The man, Gingesh Khan, was on trial before Justice Brassington Reynolds at the Sexual Offences Courtroom.

According to the indictment presented by State Prosecutors Lisa Cave and Seeta Bishundial, Khan committed the acts between August 1 and August 31, 2008, in the county of Demerara.

Based on information, Khan is known to the girl’s family. During the period mentioned in the charge, he engaged in sexual intercourse with the underage girl. The child later complained to her parents and a report was lodged with the police. Investigations were carried out and Khan was arrested and charged.

Attorney-at-law Ravindra Mohabir requested for a probation report to be prepared on his client before the court imposes a sentence.

His request was met by no objections from the prosecutors and the judge who ordered that Khan be remanded to prison until May 14, 2019 when he will appear back in court for sentencing.
