A Jamaican man who pleaded guilty to posting a pornographic video of his girlfriend on WhatsApp was today sentenced to one year in prison for the crime.

Thirty-two-year-old Anthony Lynch pleaded guilty to the charge which stated that on January 1, 2019 at 20 East Ruimveldt, Georgetown, he knowingly or without lawful justification exposed for public viewing an obscene matter, that is a video intending to corrupt public moral.

Lynch pleaded not guilty to the two latter charges.

According to information by Police Prosecutor Sanj Singh, on January 1, 2019 Lynch posted an obscene video of his girlfriend on his WhatsApp status with intent to corrupt public moral. A relative of the victim saw the video and reported the matter to the police.

An investigation was then carried out and Lynch was arrested and taken to CID for questioning. The court heard while at the station, he was placed to sit on a bench and he ran out the station and made good his escape.

A search was then carried out and he was later rearrested, hence charged for the offence.

The magistrate, after listening to the facts, sentenced Lynch to one year in prison on the first charge. He was also instructed to make his next court appearance on July 19 for report in relation to the charges he denied.
