A spiritualist whom the police said forced himself on a 23-year-old woman in a bid to “take out the bad ‘oman in she” was today charged with rape.

Forty-three-year-old Dion Liverpool of Linden was not required to plead to the indictable charge which stated that on June 2, 2019, at Linden, he engaged in sexual penetration with a woman without her consent.

Liverpool appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts. The matter was heard in-camera and members of the public and the media were asked to exit the courtroom.

According to information, on the day in question, Liverpool and another individual went to the victim’s home to give her a spirit bath. It was reported that Liverpool had a deck of cards in his hand and told the woman to pick a card and place it within her vagina.

He then took two beetles and showed her before telling her that something is going to happen to her. Liverpool then forced himself on the woman and had sex with her. His friend also had unprotected sex with the woman.

The matter was then reported, an investigation was carried out, and Liverpool was arrested and charged with rape.

The prosecutor objected to bail being granted to Liverpool on the grounds of the prevalence of the offence and the penalty the charge attracts.

The Chief Magistrate, after listening to the facts, remanded Liverpool to prison until June 26, 2019 when he will appear in the Linden Magistrates’ Courts.
