A taxi driver was today charged with sexual assault after he allegedly reached under a 16-year-old’s top, touched her stomach, and attempted to kiss her.

Thirty-nine-year-old Rohan Singh of 52 Block CC Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara, appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.

Singh was not required to plead to the charge which stated that on May 22 at Farm, East Bank Demerara, he touched a 16-year-old in a sexual manner without her consent.

The matter was held in-camera and members of the public and the media were asked to exit the courtroom.

According to information, on the day in question, the teen stopped the taxi in which Singh was driving. The teen asked the taxi driver to take her to the Diamond Hospital, East Bank Demerara to visit a friend.

However, on the journey, Singh allegedly turned into Farm, East Bank Demerara, and pushed his hands under the teen’s top, rubbed her stomach, and attempted to kiss her.

The matter was then reported, an investigation was carried out, and Singh was charged.

Chief Magistrate, after listening to the facts, released Singh on $100,000 bail.
