Eight months have passed and investigators are yet to make progress in arresting the Chinese national who struck and killed a 15-year-old pillion rider and injured the pedal cyclist in an accident on the Annandale, East Coast Demerara (ECD) Public Road.

It is believed that the suspect, who has been identified as C. Wen fled to neighbouring Suriname after the victims’ relatives refused to accept a settlement. However, no efforts were made by local law enforcement officers to apprehend the runaway driver.

The suspect’s minibus was found hidden in a bond at Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara (ECD) days after the accident. It has since been confiscated.

The Guyana Standard has been informed that the suspect, who was operating a supermarket in Guyana, has relatives who own several supermarkets in Suriname. It is suspected that he is working over there.

In fact, while in Guyana several of his products were being imported from the neighbouring country.

The teens were on a pedal cycle when they were struck down by the speeding minibus on December 09, 2018. The pillion rider, Karchand Khemraj, 15, of lot 44 Annandale Public Road, ECD, succumbed to his injuries at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).

The cyclist, Razid Shaw, 16, of lot 35 Annandale Public Road, was previously bedridden. With physiotherapy, he is now able to walk and talk again.

Anyone with information about the suspect is urged to call the nearest police station.
