Two men, who were recently busted by Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) with 95 pounds cocaine, were today remanded to prison for the offence.

Shafeek Latif, 39 of 535 Tuschen New Housing Scheme, East Bank Essequibo and Naresh Totoram, 35 of 632 Tuschen New Housing Scheme appeared before Magistrate Zamilla Ally-Seepaul at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court.

It is alleged that  on October 15, 2019, at Parika Public Road, East Bank Essequibo they had 42.824 kilograms of cannabis in their possession for the purpose of trafficking.

The men pleaded not guilty to the charge after it was read to them.

According to reports, the suspected cannabis was found in a Toyota Spacio motor car, in which the two men were occupants. The substance was found in two “salt bags” in the back seat of the vehicle.

Both men were instructed to make their next court appearance on November 8, 2019.
