-Persaud, Mentore in the lead

The excitement in the air was almost electric, as eager golfers teed off at 7:30 a.m. to prove their excellence after months of competition and training to climax in this phenomenal 2-day Guyana Open 2019, which began on Saturday (October 26).

The ‘A’ or 0 – 9 handicap ‘Championship’ Flight produced a first day’s net results of three former Guyana Open champions Alfred Mentore 66/9, Avinda Kishore 68/4 and Avinash Persaud (current champion) 69/2, followed sharply by Kassim Khan 72/8, Aleem Hussain 72/8, Mike Mangal ( a former GO champion) 73/9, Andrew De Jesus 74/9 and Monnaf Arjune 74/9.

The Day’s Best Net scorer was Mentore, while Persaud was the Best Gross scorer.
In the 10 – 18 category, best scores came from Rakesh Harry 65/18, Lakram Ramsundar 70/14, Ayube Subhan 70/14, Patanjilee Persaud 70/14, Satrohan Tiwari 70/16, Aasrodeen Shaw 71/13, Guillermo Escarraga 73/18 and George Bulkan 73/16. Rakesh won both the Best Net and Best Gross score for this Flight for the day.

The 19 – 28 handicap Flight top scores came from Imtiaz Subhan 68/22, Philbert London 69/21, Jordi Pinol 73/28, Miguel Oviedo 78/28 and Mario Acuna 86/28. Best Net scorer was Subhan while Best Gross was Dr London (he and Subhan tied for gross scores, but he won on the countback).

In the Seniors Flight, competitive scores came from Tulsieram Persaud 71/24, Maurice Solomon 74/25, Abdool Azeez 81/25 and Robert Hanoman 86/28. Persaud won both the Best Net and Best Gross scores.

In the Ladies category, the three former Guyana Open champions tied for a gross 89 and led the way; Joaan Deo 74/15, Shanella London 75/14, and Christine Sukhram (current champion) 78/11 followed by Julia Stevenson 80/11, Eureka Giddings 82/28 and Errin Mitchell 86/28. Deo won both Best Net and Best Gross on the countback.

Longest Drive was won by Parmanand Persaud, while Nearest The Pin was won by Kassim Khan.

The action continues today at the Lusignan Golf Course where another thrilling day’s play is anticipated.
