Samuel Allen, who was on trial for the April 03, 2014 murder of Brazilian national, Joao DaSilva, was this afternoon freed after a jury found him not guilty.

It was alleged that on the day in question, at Five Miles, Arakaka, North West District, Allen, who was represented by lawyer, Maxwell McKay, murdered the 57-year-old man.

Allen, who was just 18 years of age when he was charged, pleaded guilty to the indictment presented by State Prosecutor Sarah Martin at the start of trial before Justice Jo Ann Barlow.

According to previous reports, DaSilva had been living in Guyana for a number of years and was beaten during a robbery at the aforesaid location.

The injured man was taken to the Arakaka Health Centre and subsequently referred to the Georgetown Public Hospital. He, however, died while awaiting transportation.

A post mortem examination revealed that De Souza died as a result of cerebral hemorrhaging caused by blunt trauma to the head.
