President, David Granger revealed moments ago that his party received a troubling report of hooliganism that occurred last night in Region Two and has since reported it to the Ethnic Relations Commission (ERC).

During his interview this morning at Camp Ayanganna where he was observing the voting of Guyana Defense Force ranks, the President told the media that his party was informed that one of its Coalition members was badly beaten by thugs associated with another party. He said that those reports are being looked into. Granger said that the person was innocently going about his business last night with respect to preparations for today.

Further to this, the APNU+AFC Presidential Candidate said that the beating was confirmed but the probe is to ascertain the identity of the hooligans. He said too that a report was made to the ERC since the victim is of indigenous descent “and we are convinced that the beating was politically motivated.”

During his brief interaction with the media, PPP Commissioner at the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM), Robeson Benn, said he received no reports of the “politically motivated” attack Granger spoke of. He did note however that the media should enquire about it from other individuals.
