President, David Granger was quick to dismiss this morning, accusations that the APNU+AFC is engaging in efforts to disenfranchise PPP supporters in certain strongholds by reducing the number of private residences that can be used as polling places on election day.

Granger said that he was not inclined to respond to the allegations that were reportedly made by Opposition Leader, Bharrat Jagdeo as he has not seen reports to this effect.

“But when they were in government, it was apparent to us in the opposition then that so many of the private residences (they selected) were so obscure that reporters couldn’t find them and some of them had to be changed at the last moment,” the President asserted.

Further to this, Granger said that he is not in charge of running elections, while adding that complaints should be addressed to the Chairwoman of the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM), Justice rtd. Claudette Singh.

The President said, “…There is no attempt on our part to disenfranchise anyone. But there were numerous abuses in the past in terms of the selection of private residences. Some of them were the houses of active political candidates and many persons not associated with the administration were disenfranchised.”
Be that as it may, Granger said he is very confident that GECOM will make the right decision on these and any other related issue.
