“Y’all better protect her because if I get bail I gone burn she,” were the words of a serving member of the Guyana Prison Service.

He made these assertions in the presence of several police ranks when he made another court appearance this morning.

Last week, he was hauled before the courts for verbally threatening a woman and violating a protection order. He was remanded to prison.

It is alleged that on February 2, 2020 at Hinck Street, Georgetown, he made use of threatening language towards Donella Andrews.

It was further alleged that on the same day and at the same location, he contravened a protection order made on July 16, 2018 in relation to Donella Andrews by coming within 50 feet of her and holding her hand.

Selman, 43, denied both charges after they were read to him by Principle Magistrate Faith Mc Gusty.

Consequent to Selman making threatening remarks against the victim this morning, police ranks lodged a complaint with the Magistrate.

Apart from that, Andrews told the court that Selman had been contacting her via phone from prison.

Magistrate McGusty, upon listening to both sides, further remanded Selman to prison on the grounds that he needs to be somewhere to think about his actions.

He was instructed to make his next court appearance on March 11, 2020.

Last week, Selman who is no stranger to the courts was remanded by Magistrate McGusty
because she is of the opinion that he has a tendency of disobeying the laws of the country.

The protection order was consented by him. The police prosecutor had told the court that Selman’s actions clearly show he has no respect for the law.

In 2017, Selman was charged for assaulting a court orderly at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court. This was after the magistrate spoke to him on four occasions about his behaviour.

Selman was also previously charged for assaulting a minor school girl; the matter was however dismissed.
