To reduce the spread of COVID-19, the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCCA) has decide – with the approval of the Cabinet Task Force โ€“ to close airports to all international flights, except for outgoing flights, cargo flights, medivac flights and technical stops.
This will come into effect from midnight of Wednesday, 18th March 2020.

โ€œWe hope that this will only last for two weeks; 14 days. We will continue to maintain out contact and communication with the Ministry of Health and the Task Force to ensure that this 14-day period is adequate. If so desired and requested, we will continue the process of the closure after those 14 days. The authority will still be doing inspections,โ€ says Authorityโ€™s Director-General, Egbert Fields.*
