Almost 10 years after he was founding hanging in his grandmother’s house, an inquest has commenced into the death of 22-year-old former soldier, Rolex Clay.

Clay’s grandmother, Leonie, found him hanging under the bottom flat of her Lot 165 Hoppie Street, Dartmouth, Essequibo Coast home, sometime after noon, on March 3, 2011 when she went to feed her chickens.

Family members could not provide a motive as to why the young man would want to take his life.

The Registrar of the Supreme Court,via a notice in the daily newspapers, indicated that the inquest proceeding will be heard before Magistrate, Esther Sam at the Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court.

Like in all common law jurisdictions, an inquest is held to investigate the cause of death and is presided over by a coroner; a jury decides on the facts of the case.

The inquest will determine if anyone should be held criminally responsible for Clay’s death.

According to the notice published by the Registrar of the Supreme Court, the following witnesses are to testify in the proceedings.

They are Kwesi Abrams of Anna Regina Police Station; Leonie Clay of 165 Hoppie Street, Dartmouth, Essequibo, Coast; Kevel Clay and Robert Clay of Lot 27 Hoppie Street, Dartmouth Village, Essequibo Coast; and Ramnanan Singh of Lot X Sparta, Essequibo Coast.
