Rotary Guyana, in collaboration with members of the local business community, recently launched a “Community Covid-19 Initiative”. This initiative was established to address the Covid-19 (coronavirus) pandemic and its impact on Guyana.

The aim is to provide assistance to the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) in its effort to manage the COVID-19 pandemic. This initiative will be effectively implemented with guidance from The Pan American Health Organization’s (PAHO) and the World Health Organisation (WHO) which is recognised as the leading global experts in this pandemic.

The Community Covid-19 Initiative will focus on the following areas:

(1) to develop an effective multimedia campaign to help educate the public with credible, verified information from the PAHO/WHO, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and (2) to raise funds for the procurement of medical supplies for healthcare providers to meet the anticipated need.

The initiative acknowledges the PAHO’s technical expertise and its important supportive role in Guyana’s Healthcare system. As a result, it has partnered with this organisation to ensure the development of accurate and effective messaging to be disseminated to the Guyanese people. With monetary support from the business community, the Initiative will also seek to assist with procurement of critical medical supplies.

To date, the Community Covid-19 Initiative has identified medical supply needs from the MoPH and Mercy Hospital. They are also communicating with other healthcare facilities
to identify their medical supply needs at this time.

The Community Covid-19 Initiative’s goal for their multimedia campaign is to help bring awareness to the general public so that we all “KNOW WHAT TO DO” and are equipped with the knowledge and preparedness to stop the spread of Covid-19 in
Guyana.

Through multimedia platforms, the Initiative will be sharing informative messages, videos and flyers to reach as many Guyanese as possible. All of these messages that will be shared on Covid-19 will be based on credible information publicised by MoPH, PAHO/WHO, and CDC, the club said.

This initiative is currently supported by Rotary Guyana, E-Networks Inc., RED Entertainment, Ogle+Stone, 94.1FM, GTT, MixFM and Toucan Industries. The Community Covid-19 Initiative is aiming to gain more support from the business
community and is welcoming all concerned citizens of Guyana to join the fight against Covid-19.
