(DPI) – The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has activated level three emergency operations and support to the Guyana government in the fight against COVID-19.

UNICEF Guyana-Suriname Country Representative, Sylvie Fouet disclosed that this will be done through the introduction of a Knowledge, Attitude and Practices (KAP) survey which will be made available to the Guyanese public from the first week in May.

Fouet explained that the KAP survey reveals misconceptions or misunderstandings that may represent obstacles to the measures an authority would like to implement and potential barriers to behavioral change.

The UNICEF representative said, the survey will be conducted every two weeks and will be done in all ten regions. It will be carried out via three different methods.

“The survey is conducted by phone to households (persons will call your home), online surveys (you may receive an email asking you to complete the survey), and piggyback work of health-care, social workers, and community counsellors (for the hinterland regions),” Fouet explained.

It was noted that participation to this survey is voluntary, however, those who participate will be helping to stop the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.

At least 663 of those who take part in the survey will be randomly selected and then contacted. The survey is said to have a 99 percent confidence level and a one percent margin of error.

Fouet further explained that persons can go to the UNICEF and MoPH websites and take the survey during the first and third weeks of May.

It was also highlighted that the survey will be conducted by trained personnel and not take more than ten minutes per individual.

“The interviewers will not ask for money, supplies, materials or any other human, financial or material resources. All information will remain strictly confidential and will only be used for this survey”, the UNICEF representative added.

This is part of UNICEF’s community engagement aspect of lending support to the government through risk communication.
