A miner who admitted to killing a peacemaker after he intervened in a physical altercation he had with his wife, was yesterday charged with murder.

Fifty-two-year-old Dionysius Macido called “Niggi” appeared before Magistrate Crystal Lambert in the Bartica Magistrate’s Court where the murder charge was read to him via Skype.

Macido was not required to plead to the indictable charge which stated that on June 23, 2020, at Turtle Creek Landing, Mazaruni Region Seven, he murdered Tamesh (only name given).

According to information, on the day in question, Macido and his wife were involved in a verbal dispute which later turned physical.

Tamesh, who was nearby, saw what was transpiring and decided to intervene.

However, Macido became upset and dealt Tamesh several stabs and chops about his body with a cutlass before making good his escape.

The matter was reported and following an investigation, Macido was apprehended in some nearby bushes.

While in custody, he allegedly told ranks that he had used a small cutlass to commit the crime which he disposed of the while running away from the scene.
