A 23-year-old man was early this morning fished out of a river at Kaburi, Region Seven (Cuyuni – Mazaruni).

Dead is Roger Alert of Brighton Village, Corentyne – a father of a one-year-old child.

Guyana Standard understands that Alert left his home last week Monday to work with his father at his mining operations at Kaburi. He was expected to spend one week after arriving at the site on Monday.

On Tuesday, his father, Rolston, left him in charge of the shop to travel to Georgetown to conduct some business.

However, yesterday afternoon, family members received information that Alert and two others were swimming across the river but he never resurfaced.

“While coming home from work, I got a message that he drowned, but we ain’t know what time it happened. They said that he and two friends, the three of them were swimming across to go to the shop and I ain’t know what they were going to get, but they say when they meet across and look back, there is no Roger,” the grieving sister, Rochelle stated.

Further, the aggravated sister explained that the family is puzzled since her brother was a good swimmer. In fact, the young lady pointed out that their mother died four years ago, and with her brother’s death, it feels as though her entire world is falling apart.

It was really hard this morning when we received the information. I am puzzled because he knows to swim very good like my father,” she concluded.

Police have since launched an investigation into the matter.
