Advisor to the Minister of Health, Dr Leslie Ramsammy is advocating for the arrest and quarantine of Coalition Members of Parliament, Christopher Jones and Sherod Duncan.

In a recent Facebook post, Dr Ramsammy – a former Health Minister – contended that both Jones and Duncan know they tested positive, yet they moved “freely among protesters and went to parliament in defiance of instructions that anyone with a positive result stay away”.

“This necessitates action under the public health ordinance orders,” the advisor said.

His comments come a day after the Health Minister, Dr Frank Anthony expressed dismay in the actions of the two new Members of Parliament.
He reminded that it is an offense to flout the order and law in place to curb the transmission of the infectious disease.

“It’s a public health concern…We have an order in place. We also have a public health law. That law clearly states that if anybody knowingly spreads an infectious disease, then they’re committing an offense …The Clerk of the Parliament, two days ago, put out a letter to all Members of Parliament to clearly state if anyone has COVID-19, then they shouldn’t attend the Parliament in person, but virtually. So, I guess the parliament recognized that there might have been Members of Parliament who had been affected by the disease, and they offered a different methodology for them to participate in the proceedings of the Parliament,” he said two days ago.

The Coalition has responded to the Minister of Health. They have raised breach of confidentially concerns. Supporters have been calling for action to be taken against the minister for publicly revealing the status of the two parliamentarians.
