Former Guyana Police Force (GPF) member Shawn Neblett, who is wanted by the United States of America in relation to trafficking narcotics, has been called on to lead a defence in extradition proceedings against himself, which is ongoing at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.

Following the closure of the prosecution’s case, led by Senior State Counsel, Stacy Goodings who is appearing on behalf of the U.S. government, presiding Magistrate Faith McGusty overruled a no-case submission by Neblett’s lawyer.

On February 2, 2017, police issued a wanted bulletin for Neblett in connection with trafficking in narcotics through the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri, East Bank Demerara. Extradition proceedings commenced against him on May 7, 2019.
He has been on remand ever since. One of the grounds on which he was refused bail was the fact that he had been evading police. He was arrested at Moleson Creek, Berbice, while illegally attempting to cross over to Suriname.
