A Trinidadian who was behind the wheels of a speeding Tacoma pickup, which crashed into a 40-year-old pedal cyclist, causing him to lose his life, has been charged for the offence.

Twenty-five-year-old Akedo Isaiah McPhee of Oronoque Street, Queenstown, Georgetown, was not required to plead to the charge which stated that on September 3, 2020, at on Bel Air Public Road, Greater Georgetown, he drove motor pickup GTT 8153 in a manner dangerous to the public, thereby causing the death of Navindra Doray.

McPhee appeared at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Melissa Mittelholzer. He was remanded to prison until September 28.

It was reported that on the day in question at about 13:00 hrs Doray, age 40, of 10 I 1 Block F Sophia, Greater Georgetown, was proceeding west along the southern side of the southern carriageway.

The pickup was travelling in the said direction at a very fast rate of speed while approaching Yokohama Auto Sales. The driver allegedly overtook several vehicles on the inside and collided with the pedal cyclist.

The driver, along with a 32-year-old male occupant of the pickup also received injuries about their body.

They were all taken to Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation. The pedal cyclist was pronounced dead, while the driver and his passenger were treated and sent away.
