Several shots were fired this morning after a murder accused escaped from the Lusignan Holding Bay Area.

The escapee has been identified as 25-year-old Ishaka John of 109 ‘A’ Field Sophia. He escaped between 02:00 hrs and 02:20hrs.

Police said that the escapee was seen by three ranks of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) and the Guyana Prison Service (GPS) as he was on top of the fence.

As a result, several shots were fired in an effort to apprehend him, but he continued to run in an eastern direction between towers four, five, and six, police said.

“It is unclear if the prisoner was hit, and a search is currently being conducted around the area, and it’s surroundings,” Police said in a statement.

Meanwhile, the GPF and the GPS are working in collaboration to recapture the inmate.

An investigation has also been launched into the circumstances surrounding the escape.

John was charged for the murder of 32-year old Jason Jabharry Bowen, who was strangled to death with a belt on October 12, 2019.
