An investigation into financial misconduct at the Demerara Harbour Bridge Corporation’s Asphalt Plant has found that the DHB General Manager Rawlston Adams approved and purchased a gold bracelet for himself as a gift to the tune of $897,000.

This revelation was made this morning after the report was handed over to Minister of Public Works Juan Edghill.

Lead investigator Chateram Ramdihal explained to reporters that the gift was purchased in November 2019 for International Men’s Day. He noted that gifts were also bought for other staffers without the approval of the Board of Directors.

“Normally, approval for those limits should have been done by the board, and if there is no board at the time, the expectation is that it is escalated to the subject minister at the time,” Ramdihal said on Wednesday.

In a brief comment, Minister Edghill said that the report would be discussed with the Board of Directors and the necessary action will be taken.
