Public servants who were granted salary increases or bonus payments during 2020 would not be qualified for the one-off grant of $25,000.

This was revealed by Finance Secretary Sukrishnalall Pasha in a letter to the Chairpersons, Chief Executive Officers, Managing Directors and General Managers to all Public Corporations.

“This [grant] does not apply to agencies that granted any salary increase or bonus payments during 2020,” the letter said while adding that “all payments must be self-financed by the Corporation.”

On Thursday last, President Irfaan Ali announced that public servants and sugar workers would be getting a one-off grant of $25,000. The grant is included in the December 2020 payroll.

The total cost of the grants is more than $2B and is expected to benefit over 60,000 workers.
