Police are hunting for two bandits who posed as passengers on Tuesday night and robbed a taxi driver of his motorcar and other valuables.

Bhagwandin Narine, 39, who works at a taxi base at New Road Vreed-en-Hoop, West Coast Demerara (WCD), said that at about 20:30 hrs, he was sent to pick up passengers opposite the West Demerara Regional Hospital.

Narine went to the location with his motor car PNN 2814 and picked up two unidentifiable men, both of whom had their faces covered with black masks.

According to the Police, they inquired about the fare from opposite the West Demerara Regional Hospital to Policeman Corner and were told it would be $1500, and they agreed.

One of the suspects then entered the front passenger seat, and the other in the back passenger seat behind the driver.

As the victim reached the Policeman Corner, one of the suspects told the driver to stop at a heap of white sand, and he complied.

The bandit behind Narine placed him in a vice and pointed a handgun to his head; and told him to stay quiet.

The other suspect in the front passenger seat then exited the car and pointed a handgun at Narine’s abdomen and told him that if he made any noise, he would die.

The two bandits then searched the driver and relieved him of $10,000 cash, one gold wedding band valued $75,000, one Samsung Galaxy cellular phone valued at $86,000, and a White Toyota Spacio valued at $1.3 million. They also stole items valued at $1,471,000.

The men then made good their escape in a western direction. Investigations are ongoing.
