With 782 COVID-19 infected persons currently in home isolation, the Health Minister, Dr Frank Anthony, has assured that a system is in place to ensure that they do not venture out and spread the virus.

He informed the Guyana Standard that when persons are sent to home isolate, they either stay at hotels to avoid transmitting the virus to uninfected family members, or they stay at home in an isolated space.

Regardless of the arrangement, health officials would call to check up on patients to ensure that they are within the parameters of their isolated space, the Minister said.

He confirmed that there was an instance where a patient, who was staying at a city hotel, left the confines of the establishment to visit the Bourda Market. Dr Anthony said that the police were immediately informed, and the individual was caught and taken into a government isolation facility.

It is unclear if there are any penalties attached to persons breaching home or institutional isolation protocols.

Meanwhile, the number of persons in institutional isolation is 55.
