Saipem S.p.A., an Italian multinational oilfield services company and one of the largest in the world, recently submitted to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), a project summary for its highly anticipated fabrication yard which will see the involvement of Guyanese.

According to the document perused by this news agency, the facility is expected to be located at Lot A, Lot B, Mudlot A, MudLotB, and Water Parts of Pitman and Ashley Square, South Cummingsburg.

The Italian company said that the land which is located in central Georgetown is situated on the eastern side of the Demerara River, and surrounded by industrial entities on the eastern, northern, and southern boundaries.

Guyana Standard understands that the site was previously used as a shopping complex and movie theatre. However, it currently has no ongoing activities.
Saipem said that the yard will stretch a total of 10,000 sq meters and will function as a fabrication area for jumpers and other subsea structures needed for the oil industry.
