The packages of 300 pounds of cocaine which were found in containers that arrived at the Kingston Freeport Terminal Limited (KFTL) on Monday afternoon from Guyana, were hidden in rice and timber. This was confirmed moments ago with senior officials at the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA). Guyana Standard understands that the agency is currently reviewing documents from the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) to ascertain how long it took between the time of scanning or examination and shipping. The officials were keen to note that scanning of containers is a requirement for US, ABC Countries, and China but not for Haiti and the Caribbean.

The Jamaica Gleaner which first reported the matter noted that the drug was found in two of six transshipment containers that were en route to Haiti and China.

While searching the containers, Narcotics Police accompanied by members of the Jamaica Customs Contraband Enforcement Team reportedly found a total of 122 packages (110 in one and 12 in another), each with a compressed white substance resembling cocaine.

The total weight of the drugs is approximately 139.4 kilograms (307 pounds) and the estimated street value is US$6.59 million.
