Shamar King, 18, today made an appearance before Cheif Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts to answer to a robbery with violence charge.

The charge states that on April 8, at Mandela Avenue, while in the company of others, he robbed Ivelaw Jacobs of a Samsung Galaxy valued $34,000 and immediately after or during the course of the robbery, he used personal violence towards Jacobs.

The youth pleaded not guilty to the charge. He was released on $60,000 bail and the matter was adjourned until April 19.

According to the prosecutor, King and Jacobs were involved in an accident whereby King’s motorcycle hit a pavillian as a result of an accident. He then demanded that Jacobs fix his motorcycle and an argument ensued.
King and Jacobs then started to scuffle with one another and King after assaulting Jacobs, then reached into the man’s pocket and removed his cellphone.

Jacobs then alerted a police patrol van which was passing at the time but before the police could render assistance, King made good his excape. The matter was subsequently reported to the Police.
